Lightbulb Converting Laptop to Touchscreen

Hi,

Its been a while since ive been on (thats a good thing because I have had no computer problems ) anyway I have currently got a Dell Inpiron 1501, which has a 111GB Hard Drive 2GB RAM, 1.60ghz processer and Vista Home Premium installed. This has been my best investment as it provides Flight Sim 2004, World of Warcraft on the go without a glitch, and so far has not caused me any problems.

My quiery is this, is it possible to convert to a touchscreen into this laptop?

This link: Converting a Regular Laptop into a Touchscreen Tablet PC

says to me yes it is possible with a module on the side which I would be ok with, but within my location (Northern Ireland) would this be a doable/affordable job, or would i best just sell my Dell and get a properly designed Touchscreen Laptop?

What are your thoughts?

Many Thanks

had a good study at it and in the end its not really what i'm after, id be looking for an actual interactive screen so with the cockpit of the flight simulator, i cud touch the screen with a pen or my finger, to move throttle, flick lights on, speed brakes etc
I think id be after an expensive upgrade or just a new tablet laptop, thanks for the link directorscut

Well, just incase if anyone else was thinking about getting one...
It should work on every Laptop / PC with a USB port.

To simple the matter down,

is it possible to replace a monitor on a dell inspiron 1501 laptop with a touchscreen monitor or is it simply out of the question?

Replacing the screen on a laptop is near impossible. Applying a touchscreen over an existing screen isn't impossible.

I like where this is going,

I doubt however that it would be a simple DIY Job, can any computer repair group apply a touchscreen over the existing? and what sort of products components are required?

Many Thanks

What's the monitor size of the laptop? If it's a standard size and aspect ratio you should be able to get most of the parts from eBay...

Hi,

It is a 15.4 inch, widescreen.

What specific components should I be looking out for?

Thanks

Hi all,

little update, I just found this: MT15W-USB: MagicTouch Touch Screen Add-on for 15.4-inch Widescreen Laptop Screen, USB Interface
this seems to be what i am after but the price unit states the problem,

I have not received a successful product result from UK based google. I am extremely tempted to splash out on this, but when I splash out I always seem to make a big mistake or possibly regret it.

What is your opinion?

Thanks

I would contact the company and tell them what you want to do and see if it will work. They have a lot of other products as well. Contact mailto:info@touchscreens.com
