| My power brick also gets quite hot, especially when charging up. I can also hear the buzzing noise. However if it starts to "smell" hot then you might need to phone up HP/Compaq. I dropped my laptop onto it's side [it's a good little thing, it's taken several drops that would've killed my acer...] and the lead had snapped - inside the power jack. One call to HP later, and a courier was at my door the next day with a brand-new power brick. This one dosen't seem to get so hot, and I think it's a later revision.

| you should NOT hear anything coming from your power supply. if you do, something is not right with it. It could be a manufacturing flaw. The hum/buzz is typically the cycling of the power. Were you to go outside on a cool morning you can hear the transformers buzzing. But small appliance transformers should not be making noise. There is a chance that some of the circuitry on the board went bad. They are not just transformers anymore, they have sensors and power control. Like Ash, I'd recommend calling it in .. Pull on the insulation (if it's still warrantied) till you see the mesh wiring. Or just state it is not charging. But it's not (IMHO) safe to keep using it if it's like that. |

| Hmm... upon putting my ear to the power supply I got sent, I can't hear anything unless there is no load on it [i.e unplugged from the laptop]. If it's making noises while under load then somethings up. You're more than likely to get an outsourced service centre when you phone HP, but on the whole they're pretty understandable and well-trained. The guy I spoke to seemed to have understood there was a problem with my power supply and he ordered it, and as I said, it was with me the next day. That was the quickest I've had anything ever delivered to me, and they didn't use any special next day courier service [just regular parcel post]

| My laptop's power brick does tend to get a little hot at times, but never hot enough that i can't touch it. And i've never heard it making any noise. I would have to agree and say you should call service and let them know that you have something to worry about
