my son got and older gateway computer at a garage sale and naturally it doesnt work. he asked me if ther is a way to take the internal hard drive and cd writer and make them external? that is a question that i couldnt answer! is there a way to do it? i would think that it would just be easier to buy both external and go from there. my son is takeing computer programming at school and i think he is just messing with me? i am really new at computers and if anyone can help me come up with some good answers it would be grealy appreciated. thanks in advance.

You can make internal hard drives into external with a hard drive enclosure, but you can't make the cd writer external.
