Default T.V. Tuner???

Hi I am interested in buying a T.V. tuner, but have some questions. First if I buy one it doesnt need to be connected to my cable box because thats downstairs. Also if my cable goes to channels above 100 will I be able to view those also. Im also looking at a T.V. tuner that I don't need to install inside. Maybe like this one Home & Home Office: Slingbox Tuner . Also if i buy one it will come with the software. Also what do I need to view the channels? Will it go through the internet or do i need to plug into a phone line or something? Also is there a controler that I can buy to change the channels?

Hi again computersickness,

Welcome back to the forum - I hope to see you here more often in the future! We ask that you give help or just post in the off topic forums, as well as receive help.

What sort of TV do you want to watch on the tuner - regular tv through an antenna or cable? Also do you want to watch digital or analogue TV?
To be honest, unless you plan on using it on multiple tuners, an external tuner would be an unnecessary expense. Plus an internal card would offer a better data transfer rate than an internal solution. To stream TV to other computers, you can use a solution like Orb.

Whether you get your television through an antenna or a cable that comes into your house, and whether it is digital or analogue [i.e goes into a decoder box]. Installing a TV tuner is as easy as installing any other PCI card, which is a fairly easy job, even for a computer novice to complete.

You might need to check with your cable company if you have analogue or digital cable.
