Default A new webcam with autofocus???

hi all
im new to the site. ive been looking for a web-cam with autofocus for a long time now. i did find two. one is the isight from mac for 300 bucks (i dont have a mac) and the other is by savitmicro in korea. i read the specs on their site http://www.savitmicro.co.kr/2006E/im...jedeluxe20.php and it seems to be a very nice web-cam. but i didn't see a price. i contacted them to see about ordering and they said i have to contact their distributor at Home. so i went there and apparently theyre not even a computer parts distributor. theyre a music company or a record label or something. but i did find the web-cam on e-produkts from the main page. they only have 30 in stock. they claim to be the only usa distributor. im trying to find out if anyone has ordered this or anything from this compnay. i guess theyre for real since i got the link from the company that makes the web-cam. but they dont have much else on their site. it sounds like a good web-cam but they want 160 bucks! can anyone shed some light on this web-cam or something? i just want to know if anyone else carries it or has it or anything. any info would be great.

thanx in advance

ps. i did post this message on other forums, but nobody there has ever heard of this web-cam either. i just want to know if someone knows something about it so i can decide if its worth the money. has anyone even heard of savitmicro?

Hi there,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

Nope - I've never heard of that webcam, and I doubt anyone here has - not many people outside S Korea are familiar with their electronics market - most hardware made there is sold under Western brands.

May I ask why you are looking for a webcam with autofocus? Usually you are always sat in the same position while using it. Or do you mean a digital camera, one which you can pick up and take away and take pictures with?

hello ashley, thank you for the reply. im looking for a web-cam with autofocus because i am so tired of trying to readjust the focus manually by hand. you would think in the year 2007 a web-cam would come with autofocus. i like to show different things to my friends online too, not just myself. also, ive been looking into it since my post & there doesnt seem to be a web-cam with a higher resolution. i guess 2 mega-pixels is the best for web-cams so far. im seriously considering buying this web-cam. if i do, ill post my experience here.

thanx again

Well, I've never had any trouble with the focus on my webcam - how old is it? Newer ones no longer have these problems.

the biggest problem is that i dont sit within arms reach of my web-cam, so when i want to adjust to focus i have to move & readjust a few times. i really got this thing like 3-4 years ago. i have seen cameras that use digital zooming to force focus the web-cam, but this claims to be different. and i live in the usa, i have no idea how to convert pounds to usds. but dont you still have to turn the dial around the lens to adjust the focus? thats how mine is. anyway, i think im gonna go ahead & buy this web-cam. im just trying to think where else to ask people. id like to speak with someone that has this web-cam to see what their experience is. theres a video of this camera autofocusing on the usa distributors site. VIJE Deluxe 2.0M its near the bottom in green. looks pretty good. who knows?

thankx to ashley & blueparukia for the input. much appreciated!

You can convert currencies using XE.com - Universal Currency Converter.

Most newer cameras have no focus adjust ring - they don't read it. The feature with with the zooming in of a person's face is called face tracking - it's a standard feature on most recent webcams.
