| Hi there lickitysplit, Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do. I hate to say this, but it's very likely that your monitor is failing. I had an old, old CRT [from Y2K] fail a few years ago in a similar way. Eventually it wouldn't even start the tube, just keep clicking at me. This is probably due to a failing power supply in the monitor. Do you plug a mains lead straight into the monitor, or is there a power brick between the mains outlet and the monitor's power input? Also, if the monitor is right next to a wall or in a corner, try moving it. Heat can sometimes cause the problem, but keeping it cool will probably only stop the problem from getting worse. Be prepared to have to buy a new one.

| hey, thanks for the reply. Im not sure what a "mains lead" is, but my monitor is plugged into a power bar..? its a direct plug in, there isnt a block. my monitor is over heating though i think, because i noticed lastnight it gets really hot then starts turning itself on and off, when its cool it works fine (like right now). its away from a wall by about a foot, but its infront of a window, (in the shade) my towers fan blows air towards it.. I dont know if that would be enough to heat it though.. is it possible that a different power cord would help? and I also was using a crt that was super old - but it worked fine - I just cant see very well on it, and like i said before - no room for those old clunkers. And, if I have to buy a new one - what is a good reliable name to purchase? I was hoping to spend 300 or less.. |
