| Hi, my name is peter and I have a problem with my daughters laptop and as I am not good with computers I thought maybe one of you guys might be able to help. It is a compaq evo n1000c and whenever a usb/flash drive is inserted the system shuts down then continually power cycles until the usb is pulled, as you can understand this is very frustrating as my daughter requires the flash drive for her school work and assignments. Can anyone please help in identifying the problem and hopefully fix? thanks |

| Hi there Peter, Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do. What OS is the laptop running, what antivirus software and how old is the laptop? Are there any other USB devices plugged in when this is done, and when it reboots, does Windows manage to start up at all?

| Hi Ash thankyou for your quick response, I do not know how much help I can be but I will certainly stick around the computer is running XP Pro with the latest SP2, this problem occurred before upgrading with SP2 we thought the upgrade would help but to no avail I have run virus and spyware scans but no change the anti virus software is AVG ANTI VIRUS there are no other usb devices plugged in only the flash drive, we tried several different flash drives thinking that the drive might be the problem but there was no difference the problem still occurred when the computer reboots it gets to the XP logo screen then restarts, there is no blue screen of death it just keeps rebooting thankyou again for the quick reply |
