| OK so i just recently bought a 250gb hard drive and i was wondering is there any way to completely copy every thing in C drive to my external without making it a back up file. I want it to all be there like if i were to be looking into my computers C drive. Also after doing this I could boot from the windows on my external right?

| It depends on whether the drive itself is bootable - but you would have to install Windows onto the drive first in order for it to boot. If you want to make backups, just make image files - they are a lot less hassle to set up, generate and restore. If you want to be able to boot the hard drive in any computer you come across, then it will be hard unless the machine has the same specification as yours. This is something that's possible to do with Linux, however.
