Default Monitor choice...

I've come across a little bit of trouble when it comes about choosing a monitor. At the moment, i'm using a 14" widescreen attached to my laptop, however it really doesn't get me from A to B.

I'm thinking of going with Dell, because they offer good customer service down here in Aus, and its a reletively cheap option.

So far, this is what i'm considering

DellTM E228WFP 22" Entry Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Entry 22" Wide Screen with Analog / Digital DVI-D (HDCP)
22" LCD Monitor (its the one on the far right)

Brightness 300cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 800:1
Resolution 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz
Response Time 5ms

[Edit] Any alarm bells ringing?

Thanks

Hi. Well, I won't say that the monitor is a bad monitor--it looks like a great monitor with great specs--I've never used that specific one, but just keep in mind that with the monitor, a majority of the price is paying for the Dell name. You might be able to easily get a non-Dell brand with the same specs for quite a bit less. However, I don't know where in Aus because I'm in the US.

Keep in mind that anything less than a 16ms response time is overkill--no one will ever notice a difference, so if you're looking for one with the lowest response time, other than bragging rights, it won't really matter. Brightness and contrast ratios are more important--this monitor has great specs in that regard.

But all in all, it looks like a great monitor, albeit a bit pricey compared to what I see on store shelves right now.

Yeah, it may seem quite pricey, but its really quite a good price down in Aus. The US really has it good in terms of prices. (I think its due to Australia's protection on technology, which jacks up the prices, and because we have a crappy manufacturing industry).

But if the stats are good, then thats what i needed to hear, thanks!

(Btw, I'm guessing the 8800gts 640mb card would be suitable for this screen?)

Ah, I see--I didn't realize the huge difference in prices. That would make it annoying to build a new computer every year...

An 8800GTX would be a great card to use with that monitor--I actually wouldn't recommend anything less 'cause you'll need a lot of on-board VRAM for a monitor with a high resolution like that one if you're playing games. Have fun with it!

It is a good price cookie Monster, this monitor is vertually the same BenQ Australia & New Zealand - Computing
and can get it for $470.
you would be saving $30, but Dell Service is very good.
