| Hi there anceirz, Welcome to CompuForums! It's great that you have chosen to become a valued member of our community. I hope that you can visit our community and post often. Also it would be fantastic if you could add yourself to our member map. If you need any help using the site or have any suggestions that would help improve your experience, them please do not hesitate to contact us. Your post is not very clear - what exactly are you trying to do? Do you want to move music from your external hard disk to your MP3 player without transferring it all to your computer first? It's possible, but both devices will need to be connected to the computer. Also - what exactly do you mean by "can i have the files in windows media player to?"? Do you want to play music from the hard drive in Windows Media Player? That's possible, too. It would be helpful if you let us know what OS you are running so we can provide the correct solution - but please help us by answering this post so I am clear about what you want to do.

| I think what you want to do is in your music program for your mp3 player, set the default directory for your music library to somewhere on your external drive--that way all the songs will be on the external drive and you need not worry about having them take up space on your Windows drive if you're running out of space. Just make sure to copy/paste your old music directory to the new one--so that all of your songs are transferred to your external drive. Without knowing the player or software I can't really say more than that.
