Smile External Hard Drive - Password Protect

Hi everyone, I am new to this site & glad to be aboard.

I have just bought myself an external hard drive (320GB) for storage purposes and be able to access stuff as & when I require it.
I am looking for a software program that I can use for this drive to password protect it. I have tried a good few programs, all good at what they say they will do ie: encryption, hide the drive etc, which is great but I haven't yet come across one that actually presents you with a dialogue box asking you to enter a password, and this is what I would like.
I have a Smart Drive memory stick which has just the sort of thing I'm looking for 'U3' it asks for a password each time it is plugged into the USB port.
Can anyone suggest / recommend any software that behaves in this exact manner for external hard drives??, I would be eternally grateful...
My drive is USB2 high speed.

Many thanks. Ivor.

You may wish to check out TrueCrypt:
TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows XP/2000 and Linux

It will use "Autorun", the same system that automaticly installs the program on a CD-ROM when you insert it, to pop up the password and I assume that's how your memory stick does it too. It will encrypt the data [instead of just password-protecting it which makes it easily crackable], plus it lets you create a hidden part of the drive inside the encrypted part so that even if you are ever forced to reveal what's encrypted, you still have your data in the hidden part that isn't revealed.

Default external drive

Thanks Ash,
I have just paid for a program called StorageCrypt, but it doesn't present you with password box. I'll try this one & let you know.
Regards. Ivor

I rarely pay for programs. Not because I illegally download them, but I have found that free alternatives are as good, if not better, than the paid programs that do the same job.
