Default external hard drive problem:((

Hi, I hope someone can help me.
I bought an external hard drive recently and I formatted it and then partitioned it, now when its attached and the icon comes and goes, I tried to save some data in it and it seems to have saved some already, but it seems to disconnect and reconnect. Is the unit faulty? or is there some other trick I need to knw. I appreciate your time people.

Default Might be a bad USB interface or cable...

Well, hard to say. It might be a bad circuit board/USB interface in the case, or a bad USB cable. You can test if it's the HD by opening the case and removing the HD (might void the warranty though--don't do this if you plan on returning/exchanging) and installing it inside a computer.

Also, what I recommend if you want an external drive, is to buy the case and hard drive separately--that way you can choose a high-quality drive and case, which generally don't usually coincide with a single unit.
