Default System76

I am thinking of buying a laptop from these guys (System76), and I want to know if anyone else has bought one from them, and if so, are they good or now.

Please don't comment about the OS, no matter if you hate it or love it, unless it is related to hardware detection etc.

Thanks

- Josh

Well...the ubuntu forums seem to support them...meaning they must be good! Spec wise the laptops seem alright, especially for running a linux machine .

System76, the first people to make a Intel MiniMac rip off. LOL.
System76 should get a deal with CodeWeavers to run MS Office Natively.
Josh if you ever want to run anything natively or through thin client just ask. I believe in service providing not having 42 different PCs. Servers and thinclients is the way forward.

I said nothing about the OS (unless it is related to the hardware) for a reason.

I am looking at laptops, not a desktop. Also, try to tell me that Apple hasn't copied anything from Linux

Heard of them, but I like Novatech [ www.novatech.co.uk ]. Mainly because with their computers, Windows is an optional extra.

yes and why not, it is a decent OS, i just wish that they put KDE and GNOME on the same distro so that you can switch between the too. Then it is user preference for public terminals and large thinclient networks. I suppose you could always install it from package, but why bother when fedora comes pre done?

Putting KDE and Gnome in the same distro would require more than 1 CD. Ubuntu will never have more than 1 CD.

I think they should use DVD media like the Fedora project. My Fedora 5 DVD came through and wella, no CD changes, a easy installation perfecto.

The only problem is that old computers [and I mean old] only have CD ROM drives.

Why buy something if you don't need to use it?

There already is a DVD version of Ubuntu, for those who want it, but there is also a CD version, as not everyone can use a DVD. DVDs are still more expensive.

I have installed Ubuntu on some computers that I wouldn't be able to have if it was on a DVD only.
