a friend has a computer and would like to know in order to copy a cd does he need to be connected to the internet and have a cd burner in the computer

i am not sure how do you tell if it is i can copy it to the computer but need to know how to use media player and if internet and cd burner is needed

it is version 9 what do i need to do in order to make copies of cds answer my post please reread my question so i can understand what i need
