Default Avi to dvd conversion?

I have a few questions about this. I have a couple of programs installed that apparantly do this but i'm having problems.
I was expecting the conversions to create an iso-image which i can then burn to a dvd but they are creating something else. i would like to find a program that creates iso images from avi so i can then compress or make multiple copies at my own pleasure.
the programs i have create different files not an iso image
what are these?
and how do i burn them?
it seems to me that creating an iso image is easier, i can compress it with shrinkdvd if i need and i never seem to have a problem burning a iso image.
Is it usuall for it to take so long to convert these files?
thanks for your input....i'm new to all this.......Lee

i use active iso burner 1.1 avi divx converter an it also does other formats too u can find this on download.com its free an really easy to use normaly takes about an hour to convert an then if the avi is in two halves use dvd shrink to combine them that takes about 2-3 minutes dependin on film size and computer power or use aresgalaxy.org to downnload iso

Hi ibeeden,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit us and post often in the future - and it would be great if you added yourself to our members map and became a Premium Member.

What sort of file do you want to burn to DVD? A downloaded movie? A self-made camcorder video? Also - what burning software do you currently have?
