Does your Xbox have a hard drive? I do not own one so I'm not 100% sure, but you should be able to transfer the media by connecting the hard drive to your computer, and transferring the data from the hard drive to your Xbox over the network [if your Xbox is connected to your network]. You don't need to copy the data from the external hard drive to your computer first. Again, it would be useful to know what OS you are running.

I'm pretty sure the only way to interface your 360 with your computer is via Windows XP Media Center Edition--I don't think that other versions of XP will work. Or maybe that's just to be able to watch movies from your PC on your X-Box or vice versa? I'm not sure because I don't have an x-box, but if you just plug in the external drive to one of the USB ports on the 360, will the drive show up? Probably not. I think MCE is the only way to interface with your computer.

Ok, If you have Windows XP Home/Pro You can transfer image files, and also stream music files quite easily, but you require Windows XP Media Centre Edition If you would like to stream video's.

Ah, that's right--I forgot that was only with movies. So it seems like connecting through your home network should be okay as long as a firewall on your PC isn't blocking access to/from the xbox. Does directly connecting an external HD to the xbox work too?
