Default Best PC game?

I recently upgraded my home computer from a 10 year old hand me down so I am finally able to actually enjoy some new features. I want to buy a pc game and would like advice on which would be a good one to start with. I don't want to slaughter anyone or see a bunch of guts and blood. I have played Over the Hedge with my five year old son, so do not mind hitting people with golf clubs, etc...

Can anyone suggest a couple of fun and interesting games?

Thanks.

It depends on what kind of games you like. If you like over the hedge, you might also like RPG games such as World of Warcraft and Shadowbane. If you are more of an action gamer, try Call of Duty or Battlefield 1942. It would also depend on the speed of you computer and probably your video card as these are pretty intense on video cards. You can ussually find most game pretty cheap on Amazon.com if you don't mind them being used.

I don't think Warcraft III, rated "teen" for blood and violence, would be suitable for a 10 year old to play along with.

Some of the games you might want to check out are Sim City and Rollercoaster Tycoon. Designing a city / theme park is more fun than many people first think.

Age of Empires is awesome too, not much blood unless you are looking for it. Sadly, you can't turn the blood off. Also when someone dies they turn into a corpse.

Yeah, I don't like the fact that you have to pay a subscription though..

When i had cable internet about 7 years ago i used to LOVE Quake 3 Arena, i used to be sooooo good at it, other than that if your into shooters i'd try Counter Strike Source, i used to play that at Vocational school during free time when we had a cool teacher...

Halo or Call of Duty for sure, probably one of the most well known games for the PC ever!
