Default Post Ideas Here.

Yeah, i have an idea. How about a plugin or script or something similar that'll allow seeing what OS each user have as shown

or the option to display it aswell as any hardware they might "think" they have in their computer

etc etc.
Would be helpful if someone asks a question about something without mentioning wich OS they have or any other info given. Also, it'd be a fun thing to just have there.

That's just my two tho.

Could you explain how you are thinking?
Why would it be a security risk? I've seen alot of
forums having same kind of display options and none
of them, that i've heard of have ever had any hacker attack
not on the forum nor the users in the forum. It's called high forum security

There is nothing someone can gain from knowing a user's operating system.

If we displayed people's IP numbers along with it, then maybe that'd be a threat.

Plus, most people run Windows XP nowadays, so a hacker could guess - but as long as you're running a firewall and have all the updates the risk of being hacked is very low.

It would not be feasable to offer gifts to members that need to be brought and posted, as this site does not actaully make much money.

But I get from running a site like this far more enjoyment and fun than any amount of money can get.

Hello

In order to Give away Gifts, we would really need to introduce some kind of Monthly Premuim Service which is Paid For with certain Benefits that the normal Member does not get.

However, the friendly Spirit of the this fourm may not been as great as it is now when you start to introduce these types of services, although No member will ever have Power over any Members, only Mods and Admins.

A good Idea, is to Prehaps introduce a Credit Based Advertisement System, where by you can join and either Buy credits or or earn them, and have your banner displayed on the fourm.

I think we need a thing were people can vote and set the post as "Funny, Informative or Interesting" with a score, like "1 is bad" "5 is good" like on SlashDot.org

http://www.slashdot.org for example.

I've never seen a vB hack that does that.

Since alot of threads nowdays seems to be used only to 'chat' in, could we maybe register an IRC channel or something where such things could be done in, and leave the forum be for question/answer only type please.
Trying to uphold the rules of the forum seems to be an impossible task when people claim to have conversations in threads instead of using them for what they are meant to.

Chat threads are fine, as long as they are in the off topic lounge area. However, an IRC channel for the site would be an interesting thing to try out...

I was looking at a MyBB plugin that does the same thing I recommended this to, Ash, and it shows the OS/Web Browser of the user. But it shows the Icon, not words, so I might be a bit limited, as I havent tried it myself. And it saves Ash time from asking "What OS are you running?" and "What browser are you using?"

It is a link to another forum, so sorry Ash: [release] User Agent plugin

One screenshot:

Really soemthing good for the site if it will work for vB. (I'd test, but Ash is being a bit lazy - he know what I'm talking about )

As for an IRC, probably not a bad idea. Dejatoons has a good one
