For beginners, definitely Linux. FreeBSD is great and all so long as it is configured correctly. FreeBSD is one of those operating systems that is great under right configuration and runs like Windows ME (Mistake Edition) when installed and left unconfigured. You`ll have to know how to get around the OS in order to configure it not to mention there`s a lot of coding involved.

Now Linux on the other hand can be installed and left unconfigured without too much of a problem. All in all, both Linux and FreeBSD are great. But the question is -- is the end user advanced enough for FreeBSD?
