Well gandy, a motherboard usually has some amount of memory(kinda like ram) built in... In your case it seems to be quite alot... But also, if you are using your onboard graphics card then the system usually takes memory off of your ram to use it as graphics memory, so then if you go and put in a videocard (agp or pci-e) then the previously used ram suddenly looks like you have more ram.... Now if this is NOT the case then you might just have the wrong drivers for the motherboard... And well if that isn't the case either then, yes, the ram might be faulty... It will then be good to try to run some memory test programs...
