I have an eeepc, and its not slow for me.
I can quite easily play music, word processing, IM & internet at the same time.
And I don't think that the size of the screen is a problem neither. You can fit pretty much everything you want on it. and if not (I'm running Ubuntu on it btw) I use the buit in magnifier that comes with Compiz. Its great.
