You will either have to get TalkTalk to move the socket or extend it - I also escaped the evils of Virgin Media last year and had to use a phone extension [you'll have to get a fairly good quality one to maintain speeds] to go to my router modem as there are no power sockets where the main phone socket is.
If you do have power near your phone line, you might want to look into get an ADSL router+modem. I brought this one and I'm really pleased with the quality - I seldom have to reboot it and the wireless signal strength and quality is good even going through thick walls and into the garden.
