Ok I will look around and help other people - and I do have a modem but it's 8 metres away from my computer and through 2 doors (measured it this morning) and the wires aren't long enough. I would buy an extension but that would be really inconvienient, so I was going to fix my old internet then ring TalkTalk to see if they can put a phone socket into the pc room.
