Default My Own OS

I am considering coding my own Operating System as I think it might be quite fun to do and also a good learning process.

At the moment im trying to Decide how to go about it. I thought about creating a web based OS, but i think until the World gets lightning speed broadband that this is not the best route to go.

I also considered adapting an existing linux code and re-creating this, but its boring and has been done many time's before. I want to create an OS that is similar to Windows XP, but obviously it's illegal to use the source code from Microsoft so this is out of the question.

I am thinking of trying ASM (Assemnly language) to create a new operating system. I have come accross a project that is similar to the one in which I am undertaking here ->MenuetOS

I guess im just looking for peoples opinions and thoughts on this project. So if you have any comments or suggestions, or you want to become involved in this project then please let me know.
