It might not be just the resolution. I could be the Hertz value. Maybe the monitor can not handle a high value. Right click on the desktop and select Properties, Display Settings, Advanced and change the Hertz to a lower value. You could also lower the display resolution at the same time. Click Apply etc and reboot. Hopefully it is now working.
