I think you can buy XP still, Microsoft didn't discontinue it because the demand is so high. If you can't find it at the store, I know you can get it online.

As for what to upgrade, that's up to you. Whatever you feel is lacking, replace (if you want permission to spend a ton of money on a huge graphics card, you have it).
