Some other options.
1) Turn off Auto Complete (this is not going to delete the items, but it may keep you from accidentally searching something you didn't want), or don't want others to see you pull up

2) with your history cleared, go to the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl delete each of the keys individually. After that, in the left hand frame, Right-Click on that "folder" and chose EXPORT. Save that to your desktop. Whenever you want to clear that "folder", just execute (double-click) the exported Registry key, and allow it to merge with the registry. That SHOULD clear the entries.

EDIT: Just remembered that wont work if it's empty, it just adds/changes what's there to match what the registry file has in it. If there is additional, it stays (like additional search entries). /EDIT

This method is good for many other registry keys, for settings you like to use on multiple machines. I often export these .reg files to create consistent settings on various PC's. It saves time over setting each item individually, and if you have MANY settings you like it's easier to get them all.

Every Piece of Electronic Equipment runs on a finite amount of smoke. The systems are normally very efficient at reclaiming the smoke and recycling it, however, should you do something to let the smoke out, your system will become useless.
