If you are just trying to delete items in the search box that will appear when you type things in for a search, then you will simply need to place your cursor to the lower left of the box. Click once, and then all of your searches will appear below if they are still there. Then just highlight the first one and start clicking delete until they are all gone. At least that is what it sounds like to me that you are trying to delete.
