If the External Hard Drive has USB interface. I recommend checking out the LinkSys network attached storage adapter. It allows you to hook up your USB hard drives to your network. It is USB2, and even has a few extra USB ports not specifically set aside for the external hard drives. I have not looked at it's manual, So I'm unsure what other capabilities it has.
